Drunk driving is a crime. Entering the country illegally, especially if you do it repeatedly, is a crime. Both can result in arrests, charges, and jail time. People who have engaged in these crimes can comfortably be referred to as criminals. That’s doubly true if you’re an illegal who is arrested for driving drunk.
This should be a no-brainer but, apparently, it’s not.
Corrupt Democrat Senator Robert Menendez – a man who’s no stranger to criminal charges – appeared on “The Situation Room” with Wolf Blitzer last night. He was asked about concerns over placing a cap on the number of beds in immigration detention centers. His answer was a rambling mess that ended up chastising the President for suggesting that people who are in the country illegally, then put citizens’ lives in danger by driving drunk are, in fact, criminals.
“The reason that they are already 8,000 over their budgeted amount, so they’re violating the budget, is because of the president’s zero-tolerance policy that has turned everyone, regardless of their record, into a criminal. For example, if you cross the border undocumented, he has now made you a criminal. He is creating that problem by turning people away who legitimately seek asylum.
If a person has a driving while under the influence violation, he is now saying that that is a criminal.”
In case you haven’t guessed, the needle on my sympathy meter is at absolute zero. If it could go even lower, it would. Those here illegally should be deported – full stop. If you’re here illegally and you’re driving drunk, there should be absolutely no mercy. Honestly, I’m still baffled by the fact that we’re even tolerating the concept of giving illegals drivers licenses. That ridiculous practice should also fall under our zero-tolerance policy.
I get that Bob Menendez has his own history of close calls regarding criminal activity. I understand that this could make a person want to go easy on other people’s criminal behavior. But how ice-cold do you have to be to go on national TV and make an argument like the one Menendez is making?
If I was the President, I’d get every single family member of a person killed by an illegal drunk driver – and there are a lot of them – and I’d bring them all to Bob Menendez’s office. Let him tell these suffering families that illegal drunk drivers aren’t criminals. Force this sniveling piece of Senatorial garbage to say it to the faces of the survivors.
